4 day itinerary

Day 1: West Coast/Elandsbay/House of Rooibos/succulent nursery

Today’s highlights:

  • We drive up the West Coast and see the beautiful, bright yellow canola fields.
  • We stop along the way for refreshments (own account).
  • We drive through Veldrif and visit Bokkomlaan, where you will learn about the famous dried fish called Bokkom.
  • We drive on to Elandsbaai where you will enjoy lunch by the sea and weather permitting, enjoy a lovely walk on the beach.
  • We drive on through the towns of Leipoltdville and Graafwater.
  • We reach Clanwilliam with the incredible Cederberg mountains as the backdrop and discover this to be the only place in the world where Rooibos tea grows naturally.
  • You will visit the House of Rooibos where you will learn how the rooibos plant is grown, harvested and made into tea. There is also a wonderful variety of products on sale, from tea’s to skin care products.
  • You can also enjoy a lovely rooibos tea tasting.
  • We drive further North and enter the incredible region of Namaqualand with the breath taking Matzikama mountain range welcoming you to Vanrhynsdorp.
  • We visit a succulent nursery in Vanrhynsdorp, where you will see the most incredible succulent plants and learn how they have adapted to survive their harsh living conditions.
  • Check into our accommodation. We will either stay at the lovely Lombard’s guest house or Vanryhsndorp self- catering resort.
  • Dinner will be enjoyed at the best restaurant in town, The Red OX at Letsatsi Lodge.

 

Day 2: Quiver tree forest/Nieuwoudville/Matjiesfontein farm

Today’s highlights:

  • Delicious breakfast at the Red OX.
  • We drive up the breathtaking Vanrhyns pass.
  • You visit the quiver tree forest. It is truly a sight to behold! You are able to walk amongst the trees, which are not actually trees but aloe plants. You will learn all about the quiver trees and you will discover many incredible plant species growing all around them as well.
  • We visit the beautiful sandstone church in Nieuwoudville and enjoy a cup of tea and some of the best pancakes I have ever tasted. They also have a wonderful craft market, where you can buy anything from home made rusks, leather belts, knitted teddy bears, aprons and SO much more.
  • A visit to Matjiesfontein farm where you will be surrounded by flowers as far as your eye can see. A truly incredible experience. You are able to walk amongst the flowers and find amazing species and take many, many pictures.
  • You enjoy your packed lunch surrounded by flowers.
  • Time permitting we will visit other flower spots.
  • After a full and memorable day we head back to Vanrhynsdorp.
  • Dinner at the Red OX or if you would like to have a braai on your own at your accommodation then you are welcome to do so or we can braai as a group (weather permitting)

 

Day 3: We head further North/Skilpad area of the Namaqua National Park.

Today’s highlights:

  • Delicious breakfast at the Red OX.
  • We head further North and stop for refreshments along the way in the town of Garries (own account).
  • We drive through the town of Kammieskroon and visit the Skilpad area of the Namaqua National Park which is close to Springbok.
  •  We spend the day here, walking along the flower paths and taking many pictures a long the way.
  • We enjoy our picnic lunch by the flowers.
  • We head back to Vanrhynsdorp for dinner at the Red Ox and to overnight.

 

Day 4: Pakhuis pass/Travellers Rest/Biedouw valley

Today’s highlights:

  • Delicious breakfast at the Red OX.
  • With bags packed we head off along the N7 to Clanwilliam.
  • We drive through the Pakhuis pass and marvel at the amazing rock formations.
  • We stop at Traveller’s rest for refreshments (own account). A beautiful hidden gem, situated next to the Brandewyn river.
  • We then head off and experience the majestic beauty of the Biedouw valley. Here we spend our time walking amongst the flowers and enjoying our lunch.
  • After another spectacular day, we start to make our way back to Cape Town. 

I am with you the whole time, walking with you in the flowers, pointing out and explaining the different species to you.
